Friday saw the signing of cooperative agreements between Ghana and Zambia that are meant to strengthen connections and promote trade.
Trade and investment, mining, tourism, the arts and culture, skill development, information and communication technology, youth and sports, drug trafficking, science, technology and innovation, and investment promotion were all covered by the agreements.
The agreements were signed at the Jubilee House in Accra during a meeting between President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, who is on a three-day visit to Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo invited President Hichilema to visit Ghana to improve the two countries’ already friendly bilateral relations.

The trip serves as a capstone to the inaugural meeting of the joint permanent commission of cooperation between Zambia and Ghana, which took place in Accra last April 2023.

The president of Zambia, who is also a lay leader in the SDA Church, later went to Oyibi, close to Accra, to attend the Valley View University’s (VVU) first special congregation, where five people, including the two leaders, were honored for their contributions to the advancement of their societies.
Former president John Agyekum Kufuor, former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, and Chief of Staff at the Presidency Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare were the other notables.
Honorary doctorate degrees were awarded to Hichilema, Kufuor, Mrs. Rawlings, and Madam Osei-Opare in recognition of their outstanding leadership and various contributions to their individual efforts to advance humanity.
In recognition of President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to advancing democracy and sound governance, the university gave him a presidential citation.
Hichilema later went to the Presidency for a state dinner.
The head of state of Zambia will visit the Zoomlion Waste Management Plant while in Ghana, attend the Valley View University (VVU) 2023 graduation ceremony on July 9th, and present a commemorative plaque at the front of the university.
The West African Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists founded VVU, the first private university in Ghana to get a charter, in 1979.
