I am the best person to lead NPP – Boakye Agyarko

Boakye Agyarko, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer candidate, claims that his over 40 years of spotless service to the NPP make him the finest candidate to lead the ruling party to victory in the 2024 general election.

He asserted that he is the ideal candidate to lead the party to a record third straight victory in the general election as the party searches for a new leader to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

I have a stellar track record of service to this tradition for over 40 years without a blemish, allowing me to lead this party with confidence. I also have a thorough understanding of its ethos, history, and structure, allowing me to take it in my hands, nurture it, and see it through to full maturity.

Mr. Agyarko, a founding member of the NPP who also served as the general election campaign manager in 2012 and the policy adviser for the 2016 campaign that returned the NPP to power, claimed to have the fire, the desire, and the drive to serve his country to the highest standard.

He was confident that the delegates would favor him for the party leadership because of his extensive service to the party.

New leadership approach

The flag-bearer candidate said what he was bringing on board was a new leadership style that was committed to transparency, decisiveness, and inclusivity. He was speaking in an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic at his apartment in Accra.

In order to satisfy Ghanaians and let them know that the promises made to them by the political class had been fully kept, he promised to give priority to all projects started since 1992 but left unfinished.

If all of these projects were finished, he claimed, “the political class and the people of this country will respect our new commitments, improving our condition and our reputation.”

Interest

He claimed that all of the flag bearer candidates who had showed interest had the ability to carry out their plans, but he was positioning himself as a special individual who had collaborated with the party’s grassroots supporters to get the organization this far.

Boakye Agyarko

“Considering my commitment and service to this party and the tradition as a child of this tradition from 1978 and having consistently served this party in various capacities and working with the grassroots of this party for many years as a campaign manager and policy advisor, I think it gives me a certain edge of knowing into details this party, its traditions, its ethos, and makes me thick,” he said.

Mr. Agyarko claimed that his background in economics, banking, and finance offered him the advantage to address issues facing this nation, such as underemployment, unemployment, and underinvestment in infrastructure, while also demonstrating his capacity to control the economy’s finances.

Unifier

Mr. Agyarko claimed that he had the ability to unify the party and get everyone on board.

He positioned himself as a unifier who would look out for the welfare and well-being of his party’s members and the country as a whole.

In general, I believe I have shown the party numerous times that I am approachable, that I am aware of the problems, that I am familiar with the party and have worked there long enough to know its members, and I think that is one of the reasons people feel comfortable with me, he said.

He asserted that President Akufo-Addo won the election not because he finished second to former President Kufuor in the presidential primary, but rather as a result of his toil, loyalty to the party, and battle for democracy and Ghanaians’ fundamental rights.

Therefore, Mr. Agarko said, “I think this party will continue to look at our service records and make their decision accordingly.”
