Man who claimed that police hid drugs in his car was detained

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, a man who is thought to be the person in a widely circulated recording accusing police of purposely placing drugs in his car in an effort to extort money from him has been detained by the police.

The man in question identified himself as Dr. Patrick Asiedu on the audio recording and asserted that only a fingerprint examination and his soldier brother could have cleared him.

According to police, their preliminary investigations have shown that the individual who has been detained and is known to go by the name Patrick Asiedu is actually an Uber driver rather than a physician.

The entire account given on the audio clip is untrue and a complete fabrication by the suspect, according to the investigations, the police said in a statement.

Police added that the audio tape’s dramatic descriptions of a putative military intervention and a brawl between police officers and soldiers are all untrue and the product of the suspect’s imagination.

According to police, their preliminary investigations have shown that the individual who has been detained and is known to go by the name Patrick Asiedu is actually an Uber driver rather than a physician.

“Equally bogus are the dramatic accounts of being hauled to the Narcotics Control Commission, Accra Central, and East Legon police stations. Additionally false are the allegations that fingerprints were taken. The suspect, Patrick Asiedu, however, claimed that he had previously witnessed a similar incident and that the assault described in the widely circulated audio actually happened to one of his passengers.

The suspect claims to have met with the Inspector-General of Police in another audio clip that has come to the Police’s attention. We want to make it absolutely clear that this assertion is untrue as well and should be ignored.

Suspect Patrick Asiedu, who is currently in police custody, will be brought to justice, according to the statement that investigations are still ongoing.
