August 4 declared a Statutory Public Holiday – Ambrose Derry announces

According to Interior Minister Ambrose Derry, Friday, August 4, 2023, would be recognized as Founder’s Day, a Statutory Public Holiday throughout the country.

The day was initially set for September 21 to honor Ghana’s first prime minister and president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, but President Akufo Addo changed it to August 4 in 2018.

“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 4th August 2023, which marks Founders’ Day, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” states a letter signed by Ambrose Dery, Interior Minister, dated Wednesday, July 26.

Founders’ Day is observed to honour the contributions of all front-liners who battled for the country’s independence through toil and bloodshed.
