Ghana paid $80,000 for acquisition of yellow cards at 2022 World Cup โ€“ GFA

According to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), it was fined $80,000 by FIFA for the yellow cards that Black Stars players received while competing in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Henry Asante Twum, the Ghana GFA’s director of communications, revealed this in an interview with Accra-based Angel TV.

The Black Stars had a poor World Cup performance, coming in last place in a group that included Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.

Portugal won their first match 3-2 against Otto Addo’s team, but they bounced back to defeat South Korea by the same score.

Ghana fell 2-0 to Uruguay in their final group match, despite needing a win or a draw to advance to the round of 16.

According to the Ghana FA Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, Ghana paid $80,000 in fines to FIFA for yellow cards received at the World Cup.

Ghana got 8 yellow cards on 3 games. Each yellow card attracts a fine of $10,000.

The GFA has officially acknowledged paying the fines to FIFA. Each yellow card is reportedly subject to a fine of $10,000.

According to Asante Twum, who was mentioned by GTV Sports+, “We paid $80,000 for yellow cards acquisition at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.”

Ghana, which was placed in a challenging group with Mali, will be attempting to advance to the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

The Black Stars were also placed in the same group with Madagascar, the Central African Republic (CAR), Comoros, and Chad in last week’s draw for a spot in the World Cup.
