The two-day event would serve as a springboard for the final round of the NDC’s internal elections, which will elect its presidential and parliamentary candidates for the general election of 2024, which is scheduled for May 13, 2023.
While prospective presidential candidates must pick up their nomination forms directly from the office of the party’s general secretary and pay a fee of GH30,000 via banker’s draft, prospective parliamentary candidates can do so by visiting the NDC website and paying a fee of GH5,000, which must be paid via Mobile Money.
Female candidates and those with physical limitations, however, would only be needed to pay 50% of the price.
The current exercise will last through Friday, February 24, 2023.

Submission

According to the election schedule released by the party last month, prospective presidential and parliamentary candidates must submit their filled-out nomination papers between March 20 and 22 before being vetted between March 27 and 29.

Before the election on May 13 there would also be a window for appeals on the results of the screening procedure from March 30 to April 6.

Santrokofi-Apkafu-Lolobi and Likpe (SALL) in the Oti Region would be one of the 276 constituencies where the two elections would be held on the same day, Saturday, May 13, 2023. The NDC headquarters would also count as a polling location.

Qualification

To qualify to become a parliamentary candidate aspirant, a person must first satisfy the 1992  constitution requirements for Members of Parliament.

The individual must also be a paid up member of the NDC in good standing and must not be a dual citizen or owe allegiance to any other country aside from Ghana.

With regard to flag bearer aspirants, according to the party, persons interested must be member of the NDC for at least 10 years and in good standing and also satisfy the 1992 constitution’s requirement for a President.

Presidential

The numerous presidential hopefuls are anticipated to arrive at the party’s headquarters with their supporters to pick up their nomination forms, which will be made available at the office of the General Secretary.
Every nomination must be made by one individual and supported by five other party members in good standing from various seats throughout several areas, according to a statement issued by the party’s general secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
For the presidential nomination, it stated, “Completed nomination papers must be presented to me with the appropriate deposit of GH500,000.00 (Bankers draft) between March 20 and 22, at the party headquarters.”
Three people’s names have come up for the flagbearer competition thus far: Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former minister of finance; Kojo Bonsu, a former metropolitan chief executive for Kumasi; and former president John Dramani Mahama.
The NDC set the filing fee for presidential candidates at GH400,000 in 2018 and sold nomination forms for GH20,000 in advance of the 2020 general election.
