Felix Afena-Gyan, a teenage wonder from Ghana, helped Cremonese defeat Napoli and advance to the Coppa Italia quarterfinals with his goals.
After scoring with three minutes left to play, Afena-Gyan came off the bench to force overtime. The Serie A underdogs advanced at the cost of the league leaders thanks in large part to the 19-year-winning old’s goal.
Afena-Gyan came on for David Okere with the Cremonese trailing 2-1 before scoring the game-winning goal.
After 18 minutes, Cremonese took the lead through Charles Pikkel. Napoli answered through Juan Jesus in the 33rd minute, and three minutes later, Giovanni Simeone gave the Italian powerhouses the lead.
Victor Osimhen of Nigeria entered the game in extra time as his team sought a winner, but Ceremonese’s staunch defense prevented them from scoring, sending the game to penalties.
Stanislav Lobotka squandered Napoli’s fourth opportunity after three penalties had left both teams tied.
With Napoli’s fifth attempt, Osimhen equalized the score before Afena-Gyan sent Cremonese through by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way with the last penalty kick.
