Achraf Hakimi, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain, has been accused of rape and is currently being questioned by the prosecution.
The 24-year-old Moroccan international has reportedly been charged after being questioned by the Hauts-de-Seine Territorial Security on Thursday.
On February 26, a 24-year-old woman submitted allegations of sexual assault.
The alleged assault happened on February 25 at Hakimi’s residence in the Boulogne neighborhood of Paris.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Hakimi’s attorney, Fanny Colin, informed Le Parisien that the player had done nothing illegal, stating: “The charges are untrue. He is at the justice’s disposal and is composed.”
His wife, Hiba Abouk filed for divorce because of the incident. She demanded half of the properties owned by his husband Hakimi.
When she filed for the divorce, Abouk allegedly demanded half of his property and wealth; however, she was informed that Hakimi has nothing to his name and that all he owns is in his mother’s name.
According to the source, his mother even receives his pay.
The Paris Saint-Germain player is the sixth-best-paid African footballer, earning more than $215,000 each week, according to a report by Morocco World News from June.
After a 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of rape in February, he is now being prosecuted on preliminary rape accusations.
Even though the claimed victim told police that she merely wanted to “make a statement of rape,” without making a formal complaint, police still launched an investigation into the incident.
