Eight hundred police officers will be stationed on the ground for the upcoming Assin North by-election to prevent violence before, during, and after the voting.
Director of Electoral Services of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, stated on JoyFM that the police have guaranteed there would be enough officers on the ground to maintain law and order.
“I met with the Regional Commander, and he promised to send at least 800 police officers there,”
We are hoping that the security will be improved and that the election will be free from violence. “So, if we are bringing 800 and the location has 99 polling stations, it means that one polling station may have an average of eight police people,” he continued.
He asserts that the presence of so many men on the ground is necessary to maintain order and a peaceful electoral process.
“As a result, we have already spoken to them about how the election will be handled peacefully, and we also call to all stakeholders to act morally and in accordance with the law so that they do not break it or cause legal problems after the by-election. It won’t be in anyone’s best interest.
On June 27, 2023, the Assin North by-election is slated to take place.
