Okada man receiving the canes

A 22-year-old commercial motorbike rider who admitted to stealing a woman’s handbag received ten (10) cane strokes as retribution for the crime.

Usman Bala was handed 10 strokes on Tuesday by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who also cautioned him to stop sinning or he will be sent to jail the following time.

The defendant pleaded vehemently with the court, which was presided over by a magistrate named Ibrahim Emmanuel, to balance justice with mercy, which is why the sentence was lightened.

“Earlier, Insp. Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, informed the court that on April 13, Ms. Rahila Sanusi of Kano Road Kaduna reported the case to the Gabasawa Police Station.

“Leo informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on the Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna at around 6.30 p.m.

“He said that the complainant’s cell phone, iPad, and other priceless stuff were in the handbag.

“The prosecutor said that the defendant confessed to committing the crime during police questioning and inquiry.

According to him, the crime violated the terms of Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code of 2017, according to NAN.

An eight-member accused armed robbery gang was confronted by inhabitants of Moseaso, a community in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region. Three of the gang members were apprehended and burned alive, while the other five, including the gang leader, are apparently on the run.
